5.10 Conclusion

This chapter has discussed the way entrepreneurship is essential for sport organizations to survive in their competitive environment. Entrepreneurship and sport are intimately related due to the reciprocal nature of competitiveness. In this chapter, I have looked into the determinants of entrepreneurship within a sports context. This chapter suggests that sport entrepreneurship needs to be understood based on cultural, historical and technological connections. This chapter has synthesized the literature by providing some recommendations for fostering sports entrepreneurship: (1) be creative by thinking outside the box, (2) challenge existing business models by developing new ones and (3) create an innovation climate by taking risks. In addition, this chapter has suggested that more interest should be applied to lifestyle entrepreneurship in sport. More assistance is needed for sport entrepreneurs who have the potential to significantly affect societal developments. With the background of entrepreneurship in mind, the role of this chapter was to emphasize the need for innovation in sport. This enables business practices to develop that support entrepreneurship in sport.
